GAINESVILLE, Fla. — University of Florida senior Diver, Delaney Dye, has been nominated by the University of Florida to represent the UF women for the H. Boyd McWhorter Scholar-Athlete Post-Graduate Scholarship.

The H. Boyd McWhorter Scholar-Athlete Post-Graduate Scholarship has been presented by the Southeastern Conference since 1986 to the league’s top male and female scholar-athletes. Track and Field’s Jared Watkins will represent the Florida men.

The SEC will name the 2016 recipients of the H. Boyd McWhorter Scholar-Athlete Post-Graduate Scholarship on April 28.

Dye, a four-year letter recipient on the Swimming and Diving team, accepts the nomination after having impacted the Orange and Blue both in and out of the pool over her past four years.

In the competition pool this season alone, she represented the Gators at the 2016 USA Diving Winter National Championships, posted a pair of runner-up finishes on the springboards against Florida State, and dove to a Top-10 finish on the 3-Meter at the SEC Championships (9th, 301.10).

Academically, Dye has been a constant atop Florida’s academic honors. A three-time SEC Academic Honor Roll Selection, she was also a two-time Honorable Mention All-America Scholar Athlete Honoree.

The Tallahassee, Fla., native has played a major role with her involvement in the Gainesville community’s youth. Earlier this season, Dye was named a 2016 SEC Swimming and Diving Community Service Member for her time spent volunteering with J.J. Finley Stadium Tours, Caleb’s Pitch, Climb for Cancer, Baby Gators Field Day, in addition to countless community events.

Though her diving career has come to a close this season, the next chapter has only begun. A Sport Management major, Dye plans to continue her education and pursue a graduate program in the fall of 2016.

About the H. Boyd McWhorter Scholar-Athlete Post-Graduate Scholarship

Each year, the SEC, in conjunction with AT&T, an SEC official sponsor, provides the league’s male and female McWhorter Scholar-Athlete Post-Graduate Scholarship recipients with a $15,000 post-graduate scholarship. The 26 remaining male and female finalists for the award will also receive a $7,500 post-graduate scholarship.

The award recipients are chosen by a committee of Faculty Athletics Representatives from the 14 SEC institutions and are honored at the SEC Spring Meetings in Sandestin, Fla., in early June.

Last year’s McWhorter Award recipients were Nathanael Franks of the Arkansas track & field team and Maddie Locus of the Georgia swim team.
