Dartmouth, Back from the Dead, Is Enjoying a Good Season but Falls in Double Dual Meet

PHILADELPHIA, Penn., January 24. ONE year ago, the Dartmouth college swim teams — with a little help from SwimInfo and Swimming World — were fighting for their lives. The Good Guys won that fight and this season, the Big green is enjoying their best season in years. The men are 3-3 (2-3 in the EISL) while the women are 2-5 (1-4 in the Ivy League).

That was after today's double dual meet, where — despite the efforts of Dartmouth senior Thomas Sanford, who won two races, the Big Green fell to Penn and Yale.

In dual meet competition, Sanford remained undefeated in his specialty, the breaststroke. He won the 100 in 57.90 and the 200 in 2:06.92. He was second in the 200 individual medley with a time of 1:53.80.

Senior Ryan Goldhahn won the 50 freestyle in 21.02 and took the runner-up spot in the 100 with a clocking of 46.80.

In one-meter diving, freshman Evan Sparks was first with a score of 240.90.

On the women's side, highlights included freshman Melissa Kern, who won the 1,000 free in 10:28.57, the third fastest time in Dartmouth history. In three-meter diving competition, junior Erin Bingham was second with her score of 213.85.
