The Irish National Team Trials continued Wednesday from Dublin as no new Olympic qualifiers emerged from day two, but a national record fell the way to Danielle Hill in the 100 back and to Jack McMillan in the 200 free.

Hill covered the distance in 1:00.34, lowering her own national record of 1:00.48 from yesterday’s semi-finals. The FINA A standard is a 1:00.25, so she may have a few more cracks at it come European Championships in May in Budapest.

On the men’s side, Conor Ferguson won the 100 back at 54.57, slower than his semis time of 54.32 and also off the 53.85 A standard. Shane Ryan, who holds the national record, did not swim the final after swimming a 54.91 in semis.

Jack McMillan set the national record in the 200 freestyle with a 1:47.67, to lower his own record of 1:47.68 from semis. He was off the 1:47.02 A standard, though, as he won ahead of Jordan Sloan (1:48.38), Finn McGeever (1:49.04) and Gerry Quinn (1:49.41), who could take a stab at the 4×200 free relay qualification at the European Championships.

Victoria Catterson broke her first Irish Senior Record in the 100m Freestyle Final. The Ards swimmer clocked an impressive 55.44 knocking over half a second off Danielle Hill’s 2019 record of 56.01. Catterson now puts herself in contention for Ireland’s 4x100m Medley Relay that will compete at the European Championships in May, where a world ranking of up to 16 would qualify a place for the team at the Tokyo Games.

Darragh Greene and Mona McSharry, who already achieved the FINA A standard in the semi finals, won their respective 100 breast finals today in 1:00.08 and 1:08.92. Greene was a 59.86 in semis, under the 59.93 A standard, while McSharry broke the national record with a 1:06.29, which was well under the 1:07.07 cut.

20-year-old Paddy Johnston won the other final on the night with a 1:58.81 in the 200 butterfly as the A standard was a 1:56.48.
