Colorado State vs. Denver

DENVER, Colorado, November 5. THE University of Denver women's swimming and diving team won its first dual meet of the season, defeating CSU, 180-120, Friday afternoon at El Pomar Natatorium.

"Our seniors were great leading our team and getting ready for this meet. We had a rough time last weekend in Utah and for our team to turn it around today was great," said head coach Brian Schrader. "This was a defining moment for our team because everyone found a way to race well and to score points. We have been waiting for a meet like this."

The Pioneers grabbed nine first-place, 12 second-place and 11 third-place finishes.

Junior Jackie Leung (Gresham, Ore.) started the meet off with a victory in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 10:35.56. Also in the event, freshman Jaclyn Best (Boulder, Colo.) finished in second place (10:36.77) and junior Lisa Ginder (Southlake, Texas) placed third (10:37.83).

Denver also swept the 200-yard butterfly, as sophomore Tia Totura (Castle Rock, Colo.) picked up her first career dual meet victory with a time of 2:06.44. Ginder recorded a time of 2:06.97 to finish in second place and Leung was in third place with a time of 2:07.27.

Senior Katy Motsinger (Charleston, S.C.) led the way in the 100-yard freestyle, claiming first place with a time of 52.89, as junior Kristin Schmid (Aurora, Colo.) placed second (53.12) and sophomore Rachel Burns (Tampa, Fla.) finished third (53.45).

The Pioneer 200-yard medley relay team of senior Melissa Greeves (Melbourne, Australia), Kittle, Motsinger and Burns claimed first with a time of 1:44.40. Finishing third in the event was sophomore Alex Suppan (Burlington, Vt.), freshman Kyrene Clarke (Colorado Springs, Colo.), sophomore Bailey Beins (Wichita, Kan.) and junior Michelle Needham (Portland, Ore.) with a time of 1:46.66.

In the 200-yard individual medley, Suppan recorded a time of 2:08.16 to finish in first place, while freshman Kate Naze (Englewood, Colo.) finished second (2:09.48) and junior Megan Foley (Portland, Ore.) finished third (2:09.64).

In the 1-meter dive, junior Elizabeth Yovich (Parker, Colo.) finished in second place with 229.43 points. For complete diving results, click here or visit www.divemeets.com.

The Pioneer men faced Air Force in a non-scored scrimmage during the women's meet.

Denver will travel to face Wyoming tomorrow at 1 p.m.
