Colorado State vs. Boise State

BOISE, Idaho, January 28. BOISE State women's swimming and diving won all 16 events and defeated Colorado State 186-105, Saturday at the Boise-West Family YMCA. Amber Boucher and Stephanie North each won two individual events and two relays in the Broncos' final meet before the Mountain West Championships Feb. 22-25, in Oklahoma City. Jennifer Cahill and Heather Harper also won two individual events apiece.
Boucher touched first in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 23.51, winning by more than half a second and finishing just off her own pool record time. She also touched well in front of the field in the 100-yard butterfly in 55.28. The Broncos clocked the top three times in the 100 butterfly, but North (56.32) and Stevie Hughey (57.82) swam the event as an exhibition.

North won the 100-yard backstroke in 57.07, her second win in the event this season. Nikki Cannon took third in the 100 backstroke. North added a victory in the 100-yard freestyle, winning by nearly a full second.

The seniors also formed the final half of each the 200-yard medley and freestyle relays. Sydney Johansen and Hughey joined them on the 200 freestyle relay which finished in 1:35.70, the ninth-fastest time in school history. Johansen was also a member of the medley relay.

Cahill swept the distance events, while Harper was the winner in both breaststroke races. Cahill went 17:28.21 in the 1650-yard freestyle with a 1000-yard split (10:30.63) less than half a second behind her time in the 1000 (10:30.28) last week against Oregon State. She came back later in the meet to win the 500-yard freestyle in 5:05.03, distancing herself from teammate Brooke Balogh in the final 100 yards. Balogh finished second.

Harper scored a come-from-behind victory in the 100-yard breaststroke. Trailing Colorado State's Kelly Matthews at the halfway mark, the Bronco freshman charged into the wall to finish in 1:06.12, a quarter of a second in front of Matthews. Harper had it easier in the 200-yard breaststroke, clocking a 2:22.05 and beating Matthews by four seconds.

Emily Irvin won the 200-yard freestyle in 1:53.65, leading a Bronco sweep. Balogh and Jessica Bottelberghe followed Irvin in second and third, respectively. Balogh overtook Bottelberghe with a strong final 50 to touch the wall less than two tenths of a second in front of her teammate. The Boise State trio was well in front of the competition, finishing more than five seconds in front of fourth place.

Amanda Burnett and Ciera Cortney traded first- and third-place finishes in the springboard diving events. Burnett took first in the three-meter competition with a 285.15, the third-highest score in school history. Cortney won the one-meter event with a score of 271.25, a season best and the No. 7 score in school history. Colorado State's Shayna Solomon finished second in both events.

Rachel Heaney earned a wire-to-wire win in the 200-yard butterfly in 2:05.94. Balogh clocked the second-fastest time in the 200 butterfly, but it was an exhibition swim. Christine Raininger finished third as an exhibition swimmer in the event, as well.

Raininger won the 200-yard individual medley in the final individual event of the meet. She finished in 2:09.17, just in front of teammate Chelsea Miller (2L09.35) who was an exhibition swimmer in the event.

Bottelberghe won the 200-yard backstroke for the eighth win of her freshman season. She finished in 2:04.97, leading comfortably during the second half of the race.

Before the meet, Boise State honored the six seniors competing in the final home meet of their careers. Boucher, Burnett, Kelsy Diener, Irvin, Tana Loan and North accounted for 85 of the Broncos' points on Senior Day.
