Clemson vs. NC State

RALEIGH, North Carolina, January 27. THE NC State men's and women's swimming and diving teams swept Clemson at home on Friday night, which also served as senior night for the team. The No. 23 Wolfpack men defeated the Tigers by a score of 149-83, to move to 8-1 (5-1 ACC), while the women won 141-98 to claim an 8-3 (3-3 ACC) record.
"Overall, we had a great team performance," said first-year head coach Braden Holloway. "It was great to honor and cherish our seniors, and to relive their careers today with the team to support them. It was great for them to go out in a victory."

The NC State men started off the meet on a high note, winning the 400-medley relay, and just narrowly missing achieving and NCAA B standard with their time of 3:17.79.

Michael Camper and John Newell took second and third in the 1000 freestyle, swimming times of 9:33.62 and 9:38.80, respectively. Tyler Early won the 200 freestyle in a time of 1:39.30, followed by Brandon Kingston in second (1:40.74) and Kohl Hurdle in fourth (1:43.44).

Gerard Woody and Joe Martin took second and third in the 50 freestyle. Woody swam a time of 20.68, while Martin finished in a time of 20.73. In the 200 individual medley, Ian Bishop placed second (1:52.39), Matt Thomas took third (1:53.25) and Taylor Harris took fourth (1:53.52).

Ryan Smith won the three-meter diving event with his score of 370.88, while Hudson Rains took second with his mark of 330.83. Rains placed first on the one-meter with a mark of 331.80.

Camper won the 200 butterfly in a time of 1:55.25, while Sean Reams placed second (1:55.46).

Jonathan Boffa took second in the 100 freestyle in an NCAA B cut of 44.12. Boffa's time was a personal-best by .13 seconds, placing him fourth on the all-time list at NC State. Clemson's Eric Bruck won the event in a time of 43.82 to set a new pool record. Conor Brennan took third in the event (45.77), David Williams placed fourth (46.43) and Kyle Magee took fifth (46.86).

Ivan Kopas swam a time of 1:49.74 to win the 200 backstroke, while Facundo Monteiro placed third (1:50.99) and Jimmy Ross took fifth (1:54.52).

Brian Via won the 500 freestyle (4:30.93), followed by Hurdle in third (4:42.34).

Maximus Litvinov won the 200 breaststroke in a pool-record time of 2:00.56. His time was also good for the fifth-best mark in school history. Teammates Andrew Tollefson and Greg Baskwell placed second and third in the event, swimming times of 2:03.12 and 2:06.10, respectively.

The Wolfpack women also won the 400-medley relay to begin the meet, swimming a time of 3:50.93.

In the 100 freestyle, Marifrances Henley and Shelby Hoyt took first and second place, swimming times of 10:45.85 and 10:50.30, respectively.

Hannah Freyman won the 200 freestyle in a time of 1:49.26, while Allison Hendren took third in 1:53.65, and Erica Waters placed fifth (1:57.77).

Henley placed second in the 50 freestyle (23.48), followed by Zina Grogg (23.89) and Lauren Poli (24.03). Henley's time was good for a personal-best, and the fifth-best time in school history.

Kelsey Liu placed second in the 200 individual medley in a time of 2:06.48, while teammates Kayla Grim and Katelyn Linker placed third and fourth, swimming times of 2:07.28 and 2:08.73, respectively.

Rachel Mumma placed third in the one-meter diving event with her mark of 265.27, while Hannah Hopkins took fourth with a score of 263.55. Hopkins won the three-meter with a score of 317.62, while Mumma took second (288.37).

In the 200 butterfly, Maggie McEnerney placed third (2:06.55), while Jessie McBroom took fourth (2:10.05).

Julianna Prim placed second in the 100 freestyle (51.42) followed by Hendren (52.49) and Lauren Poli (54.25). Prim's time was good for the 10th-best mark in school history.

Freyman won the 200 backstroke in a time of 2:00.93 to pick up her second win of the night. Bailey Woodling took third in the event in a time of 2:05.79, while Mary Gerloff finished in fourth (2:06.14).

Linker placed second in the 500 freestyle (5:08.20), followed by Kayla Grim (5:08.41) and Kelsey Liu (5:08.65).

Christina McCann won the 200 breaststroke in a time of 2:17.30, while Kirsten Esplin placed second in 2:19.65.

The women closed out the meet by winning the 400 freestyle relay in an NCAA B cut of 3:24.24.

"We had a great crowd for our last home meet," said Holloway. "It was great to see some people step up and race, and have some new people show themselves, and contribute to a great team effort. At this point in the season, I'm very happy with their performance."

NC State will return to action tomorrow, with a meet against North Carolina in Chapel Hill, N.C. Action is set to begin at 11 a.m.
