Christopher Wiggin Downs 28-Year-Old Meet Record During Second Day of Mt. Hood Sectional; Nathan Adrian Knocks Down Another Standard
MT. HOOD, Oregon, July 11. IT is not every day that a record of any kind from the 70s falls, but that is just what happened in the men's 200 butterfly at the Mt. Hood Sectional. The meet witnessed a pair of long course meter standards fall during the second day.
Christopher Wiggin touched in 2:00.24 while representing the DU Hilltoppers in the 200 fly. The performance erased the 2:01.44 set by Matt Rankin on July 1, 1979.
Nathan Adrian, swimming for Tacoma Swim Club, notched a 50.01 in the men's 100 free to knock .31 seconds off Ryk Neethling's former standard of 50.32 set March 1, 2004.
Other men's winners included Tom Cole of Tigard Tualatin in the 200 breast (2:20.91) and Chris Good of the DU Hilltoppers in the 200 back (2:06.02).
While the women did not touch the meet record book, they still put on a show behind the efforts of a KING Aquatics quartet.
KING Aquatics Ariana Kukors doubled up with a win in the 200 back in 2:16.80 and the 200 fly in 2:15.70.
Kim Jasmer, also of KING Aquatics, clocked a 57.11 to win the 100 free and open the evening's competition. Meanwhile, her teammate Megan Jendrick won the 200 breast as expected in 2:31.31.
