Christian Carbone Doubles on Night Three of Pleasant Prairie Sectionals

PLEASANT PRAIRIE, Wisconsin, March 15. Harvard swimmer Christian Carbone won two events on the third night of the Speedo Pleasant Prairie Sectionals.

Carbone’s first win of the night came in the 400 IM, which he won in dominating fashion with a 3:51.25. The Piranhas’ Nick Staver took second with a personal best of 4:04.31. Munster’s Joey Gardner clocked in at 4:05.09 for third and a new personal best.

Carbone also swam to victory in the 200 breast, hitting the wall in 2:02.75 for first. New Hope Crystal Plymouth’s Brenner Hohenstein posted a 2:05.06 for second, just touching out Lifetime Arizona’s Marcello Quarante.

Rachael Kelch of the Peoria Area Water Wizards took first in the women’s 400 IM with a personal best time of 4:20.90. Munster’s Nikki Smith touched in 4:24.01 for second, and the Piranhas’ Sydney Angell put up a personal best for third with a 4:25.31.

Maddie Gehrke of Central Iowa Aquatics touched out the field in the 50 free with a 23.44. Pulaski’s Corrin Van Lanen hit the wall in 23.54 for second. Aberdeen’s Shayle Finnesand went 23.77 for third place and a new personal best.

Mark McGlaughlin of the Iowa Flyers won the men’s 50 free with a personal best of 20.42. Lifetime Arizona’s Kenneth Stirling took second with a 20.66, and Josh Jordan of the Rapid City Racers placed third with a time of 21.04.

Fourteen-year old Emma Cain of Aspen won the 200 breast by a hair with a time of 2:14.93, just ahead of Sydney Angell (2:14.94). Olivia Cacciatore of the Rockford Marlins, who has committed to Villanova, took third with a personal best time of 2:19.21.

Tevyn Waddell of Mitchell Aquatics added the 500 free to her slate of wins for the week with a winning time and personal best of 4:54.93. Black Hawk’s Brittany Moffatt put up a 4:59.66 for second, and Cedar Rapids Aquatic’s Jennifer Jenks shaved more than eleven seconds off her personal best for a third place finish of 5:04.16.

Colorado Springs’ Brennan Mays won the men’s 500 with a new personal best of 4:36.07. Matt Kamin of the Peoria Area Water Wizards took second with a personal best of 4:38.90. James Boone of the Colorado Stars placed third with a 4:39.57.

Blackline Aquatics’ women (Caroline Gaertner, Olivia Johnston, Lorelai Gaertner, Megan Wenman) closed out their night with a win in the 400 medley relay. Central Iowa Aquatics (Maddie Gehrke, Moriah Ross, McKenna Lynch, Emily Baeth) placed second with a time of 3:52.90. The Blue Devils (Courtney Barker, Jessie Grasty, Madison Rinaldi, Paige Wells) took third with a time of 3:55.57.

The Peoria Area Water Wizards (Chris Neaveill, Colin O’Brien, Tyler Neaveill, Matt Kamin) won the men’s 400 medley relay with a time of 3:24.75. Lifetime Arizona (Austin Drummond, Marcello Quarante, Kenneth Stirling, Weston Miller) clocked in at 3:27.72 for second. The Colorado Stars (Austin Phillips, Triston Mosby, TJ Konde, James Boone) touched in 3:30.37 for third.

With one night of competition left, the Colorado Stars lead on combined points with 580. The Peoria Area Water Wizards have moved into second with 499 points, with Lifetime Arizona in third with 401 points.
