Chinese Long Course Nationals: Sun Yang Cruises to 1500 Free Title

WUHAN, China, April 7. DAY six of the Chinese Long Course Nationals produced several top-10 ranked swims during another swift day of racing.

While some speculated that Grant Hackett's world record of 14:34.56 in the men's 1500 free was in trouble this week after Sun Yang had put on a show in some of the shorter distances, Sun cruised to victory in the metric mile in 14:42.56 demonstrating that he'd focused on more speed work at this meet. His time still far surpassed Ous Mellouli (15:01.65) for the top 1500 free time in the world this year, and is the 13th fastest performance all time. Zhong Guixu took second in 15:01.61 for second in the world this year, while Dai Jun placed third in 15:18.03.

Zhu Jiani captured the women's 200 back title in 2:08.62 to take fourth in the world rankings, while Zhou Yanxin touched second in 2:09.48 for 10th in the rankings. Liao Yali completed the top three in 2:09.59, while Zhao Jing withdrew due to injury.

Li Zhesi won the women's 50 free in 25.17 to move to 11th in the world rankings. Tang Yi touched second in 25.62, while Wang Junyao wound up third in 25.68.

Lu Zhiwu claimed the men's 50 free title in 22.85, while Shi Tengfei placed second in 22.94. Shi Yang earned third overall in 23.02.

Sun Ye placed second in 1:07.41 for seventh in the rankings, while Liu Xiaoyu clocked a 1:07.84 for third and moved into the top 10 in the world charts.

Shanghai won the men's 400 medley relay in 3:39.14, while Shandong took second in 3:41.69. Guangdong picked up third-place honors in 3:41.82.
