Today’s events in Budapest included the preliminary and semifinal rounds in men’s individual platform, and finals for the women on three meter.

After semifinals this morning, Aleksandr Bondar from Russia is holding onto first place. He is followed by fan favorite Tom Daly from Great Britain, the Chinese gold medalist from Rio Chen Aisen, and American David Dinsmore.

Russia, Great Britian, and China all have two divers qualified for finals. The men’s individual platform final, which takes place tomorrow night, is the final olympic diving event.

On three meter, the top two women coming out of semifinals remained in the same standings. Shi Tingmao from China earned the gold medal, finishing 24 points ahead of her teammate Wang Han.

Jennifer Abel from Canada finished in the bronze medal position.

Shi earned the gold medal with a total of 383.50 points. Her list is made up entirely of dives with a degree of difficulty over 3.0, and the lowest score she received from the judges in the final round was an 8.

Wang competed the exact same challenging list as Shi. She also had a strong and consistent showing, even scoring higher than Shi on one dive. Her reverse two and a half pike (305B) was her weakest dive of the day, receiving 7s from the judges. With little room for error, Wang would have needed to be just a little cleaner to overtake her teammate.

Abel’s seller performance allowed her to jump up from her fourth place finish after semis, to the bronze medal. This is her first individual medal at a world championship meet since 2011.

Tomorrow, diving continues with finals in men’s ten meter and three meter mixed synchro.
