China Crushes FINA Diving World Series Stop in Dubai

The second stop of the FINA Diving World Series 2015 was held in Dubai (UAE) on March 19-21. British Jack Laugher prevented a Chinese sweep by taking the gold in the men’s 3m springboard. Other nations with medals in Dubai were Canada, Germany, Malaysia, Mexico, Russia and Ukraine.

In the men’s 3m springboard final, Jack Laugher (GBR) scored 564.35 points to edge Chinese World champion He Chong (531.85) and compatriot Cao Yuan (531.30). On the higher board, reigning World champion Qiu Bo (CHN) amassed 612.75 points to beat Olympic bronze medallist Thomas Daley (GBR, 578.25) and compatriot Yang Jian (563.90).

In the women’s 3m springboard final, China’s Shi Tingmao repeated her gold medal performance from the first stop in Beijing, totalling 398.70 points. The rising talent bested synchro partner and current World champion in the event He Zi, runner-up with 377.50. Jennifer Abel (CAN) claimed the bronze with 366.50 points. In the 10m platform, Chinese great Chen Ruolin took out the event with a total 386.05 while Liu Huixia (CHN) placed second with 370.70 and British Tonia Couch, third (367.70).

China bagged the six golds on offer in the synchro events, including the two new mixed 3m and 10m. The 2015 FINA/NVC Diving World Series’ third leg will be organised in Kazan (RUS) from April 24-26.
