Chase Kalisz Wins Twice in Indy – “It’s Not as Easy as It Was When I Was 18” (VIDEO INTERVIEW)
USA’s Chase Kalisz won both the 200 Butterfly and 200 IM on the first night of competition at the 2019 FINA Champions Series in Indianapolis. Kalisz took time after the IM to describe the difference between pulling off a double at the age of 25 compared to seven years ago:
Out of the pool, Chase Kalisz said he is working on recovery and getting more sleep as he gets older in the sport. Physical therapy and rehabilitation have also become his top priorities.
He also discussed training for his signature event, the 400 IM, despite not being able to race it in Indianapolis. Kosuke Hagino, one of Kalisz’s toughest competitors in the event recently pulled out of Japanese Nationals because of mental preparedness. Kalisz passed along his well wishes:

“I’ve known him pretty well. There’s an obvious language barrier. I wish him all the best, he’s such a good guy. He’s been one of my main competitors since the 2011 World Youths with Daiya [Seto] and Kosuke. I’ve gotten to know him and Daiya really well and they’re two of the nicest guys in swimming. They’re very respectful, very hard workers and tough competitors. I just want to see him happy and I hope he gets back on track and situated for a comeback in 2020,” Kalisz said.

Chase…nothing is!
