Chase Kalisz Highlights Night Two of Longhorn Aquatics Elite Invite

A number of swimmers put up some very exciting swims, three weeks out from Olympic Trials at the day two finals of the 2016 Longhorn Aquatics Elite Invite. Chase Kalisz had perhaps the most promising of these races, putting himself in a great place for action in Omaha.

Women’s 400 IM

Regan Barney was the only swimmer to earn the Trials cut in finals tonight. The 17 year old touched in 4:52.32. Second went to Elizabeth Bailey in 4:55.82 while Maddie Myers completed the podium in 4:56.27.

Danielle DellaTorre (4:57.49), Diana Dunn (5:06.87), and Kelly Hatanaka (5:09.12) completed the A final.

Chase Kalisz put together the world’s third fastest time this year, touching in 4:11.51. That swim obliterated the field tonight.

Second went to John Martens (4:20.85), just ahead of Kei Hyogo in third in 4:20.97. Aiden Sweeney (4:29.40) touched fourth.

Joseph Schooling (4:32.28), Derek Onken (4:33.17), Mason Tenney (4:36.23), and Hayden Henry (4:35.59) completed the A final.

Women’s 200 Freestyle

Allison Schmitt won tonight’s 200 freestyle, just slower than her time from the Arena Pro Swim Series Mesa. She touched in 1:56.87. Missy Franklin was nearly a second behind in 1:57.78. Schmitt’s teammate Cierra Runge was just behind Franklin, finishing third in 1:57.97.

In fourth was Madisyn Cox in 2:00.81. Joanna Evans out touched Sierra Schmidt 2:01.73 to 2:01.76 for fifth. Lotte Friis was seventh in 2:02.33 and Lauren Pitzer completed the A final in 2:02.84.

In a race packed full of stars, Townley Haas out touched Texas teammate Clark Smith 1:47.86 to 1:47.97 for the win tonight. Clay Youngquist was third in 1:48.48

Michael Phelps wound up fourth in 1:48.73. Jack Conger finished fifth with a 1:49.54. David Nolan (1:50.36), Michael McBroom (1:50.92), and PJ Dunne (1:55.38) completed the A final.

Women’s 200 Backstroke

Missy Franklin topped the field by a second a half tonight on her way to a win. She stopped the clock in 2:09.45. Tasija Karosas swam a 2:10.98 for second and Quinn Carrozza completed the podium in 2:12.12.

Cameron McHugh posted a fourth place 2:15.39. Kendall Shields was fifth in 2:15.86. Bonnie Brandon (2:17.01), Victoria Edward (2:17.66), and Rachel Zilinska (2:18.36) completed the A final.

Jonathan Roberts was the only swimmer under two minutes, clocking a 1:58.74. Matt Grevers was just over the barrier, finishing in 2:00.01. Will Glass touched third in 2:00.69.

Mohamed Hussein was the fourth place finisher in 2:02.88 and fifth went to Taylor Dale in 2:03.21.

Austin Vacek (2:03.37), Barkley Perry (2:04.85), and Isaac Gwin (2:05.96) completed the A final.

Rebecca Millard sprinted ahead of Margo Geer for the title tonight. Millard touched in 25.39 to Geer’s 25.54. Lauren Pitzer was third in 25.95 and Anelise Diener finished fourth with a 26.09.

Mimi Schneider (26.26), Kimmie Kreuzberger (26.48), Brynne Wong (26.78), and Lisa Boyce (27.58) rounded out the A final.

Chad Idensohn and PJ Dunne tied for seventh in 23.60.
