Central Connecticut State vs. Bryant

SMITHFIELD, Rhode Island, November 5. THE Central Connecticut swimming team defeated Bryant on Friday evening by a score of 171-91. The Blue Devils broke ten of Bryant's pool records in the process. Central was lead by four swimmers who earned victories in a pair of individual events, the Blue Devils won all but one of the 14 events at the meet.

The Blue Devils started fast on the day with a 1:57.71 victory in the 200 medley relay, the team consisted of junior Alex Czaplicki, junior Kristen Malski, sophomore Katie Lang, and freshman Helene Neuhaus. Sophomore Lauren O'Kelly won the 1000 free in 10:42.47 to kick off the individual victories for the Blue Devils. Sophomore Taylor Friedmann followed that with her first individual victory of the meet in the 200 free (1:54.63), she also earned the win in the 100 butterfly (59.65) later in the meet.

Freshman Kristina Gulia captured the 100 breaststroke in 1:08.12, before returning to the water to win the 200 breaststroke in 2:28.76. Neuhaus was the third Blue Devil with a pair of indvidual victories. She claimed victories in back-to-back events taking the 50 free and 100 free in 24.89 and 54.62, respectively. Lang was the final Blue Devil to earn a pair of wins after she bested the field in both the 200 butterfly (2:11.49) and the 200 IM (2:12.89).

Czaplicki won the 200 back stroke 2:07.55, and sophomore Allison Rasile finished first in the 500 free in 5:15.93 to round out the individual victories for the Blue Devils.

Neuhaus, freshman Erin Massey, Caplicki and Friedmann wrapped up the meet for the Blue Devils with a win in the 200 freestyle relay. The Blue Devils finished first in 13 of 14 events breaking 10 of Bryant's pool records in the process.

The Blue Devils will return to action on Saturday when they host New Hampshire at Jack Suydam Natatorium.
