Cattermole, Comerford Post Strong Marks on Day Two Prelims of Women’s ACC’s

After last night’s relay-only action, the 2018 Women’s ACC Championship resumed this morning with the fast swims all over the pool.

Louisville’s mid-distance duo Sophie Cattermole and Mallory Comerford each threw down quick times in the 500 free this morning as they took the top two spots leading into tonight’s finals.

Cattermole will be in lane four tonight by virtue of her 4:39.85 from the heats while Comerford posted a solid 4:40.57, to put her right next to Cattermole tonight. N.C. State Hannah Moore dropped a 4:40.88 to put her third going into finals.

Pitt’s Amanda Richey went 4:41.12 to get fourth while Virginia teammates Paige Madden and Cece Williams followed in 4:41.25 and 4:42.22. Notre Dame’s Lindsay Stone posted a 4:42.85 while Duke’s Verity Abel put together a 4:43.98 to round out the

University of North Carolina’s Carolina Hauder posted the fastest time of the morning in the 200 free with a 1:55.82 while Louisville’s Racheal Bradford-Feldman (1:56.15) and UVA’s Abby Richter (1:56.57) earned the third and fourth spots for tonight. Adding to a herd of 1:56’s N.C. State’s Julia Poole threw down a 1:56.68 with UVA’s Jenn Marrkand right behind in 1:56.89.

Rounding out the A final for tonight will be Louisville’s Grace Oglesby (1:57.48), Duke’s Leah Goldman (1:57.49) and Louisville’s Alina Kendzior (1:57.75).

In the 50 free UNC’s Caroline Baldwin notched the top spot with her 21.71 while UVA’s Caitlin Cooper swam a 21.73, for the second spot. Cooper’s teammate Laine Reed swam a 22.06 to earn the third spot into tonight’s finals.

Louisville’s Casey Fanz (22.10) earned the fourth spot while UVA’s Morgan Hill (22.16), Notre Dame’s Carly Quast (22.31) and Louisville’s Lainey Visscher (22.32) followed.

UVA’s Dina Rommel earned lane eight tonight by posting a 22.36 in the heats.

2018 ACC Championship coverage will resume at 12 p.m. with the men’s 1-meter diving prelims.
