Casper Puggaard Flies To The Head Of The Field The Morning After Double Gold At European Juniors

Casper Puggaard returned to the pool the morning after taking double gold to safely negotiate the 50 fly prelims on the penultimate morning of the European Juniors in Belgrade.

Puggaard – who won 100 fly gold before splitting 51.55 to guide Denmark to the mixed medley title on Friday – returned to take pole position in the in 24.10.

Martine Damborg led the girls’ 50 fly in 26.70 with defending champion Lana Pudar through in 27.21.

Oleksandr Zheltyakov returned to the pool the morning after his 200 back victory that saw him rocket into the world top five this year.

The Ukrainian was fifth through in the 100 in 55.72 with Matthew Ward of Britain the only man inside 55 in 54.96.

Daria-Mariuca Silisteanu – bronze medallist in the 50 back – heads the girls in 1:01.80.

Lorenzo Ballarati returned the morning after winning the boys’ 50 free crown to head the 100 field in 49.83, Boldizsar Magda the other man inside 50secs on 49.89.

Eneli Jefimova – who won silver in the 200 on Friday – was the only woman inside 1:09 over two lengths in 1:08.47 while Jonas Gaur – 50 breast winner – led the way into the boys’ semis in 1:02.56, 0.01 ahead of 200 champion Steijn Louter (1:02.57).

Leah Schlossan led a Britain one-two in the girls’ 200IM with the defending champion clocking 2:15.43 ahead of Phoebe Cooper (2:16.25).

Italy continued the form that has seen them visit the podium in all but one relay to book lane four in the boys’ 4×2 in 7:24.32 ahead of France (7:26.78) and Lithuania (7:28.55).
