NEW COMMIT: Canadian Sarah Watson has verbally committed to the University of Akron. Watson makes the move to the States from Winnipeg, Manitoba where she swims with the University of Manitoba Swim Club. She joins Lauren Cooper in the Zips’ Class of 2022.
Watson’s best SCY times include:
- 100 Fly 54.81
- 50 Free 23.32
- 100 Free 50.79
- 200 IM 2:05.01
Watson will be a valuable addition to the four-time defending Mid-American Conference Champions. She would have been a 50 and 100 freestyle B finalist at last year’s meet. Her best 100 fly time would have put her in the A final. Akron’s Sadie Fazekas (52.71) won the event, and will overlap with Watson for one year in Ohio. Jessica Bonezzi (54.72) touched eighth, and will be able to train with Watson for two years.
She told Swimming World,
“I am beyond excited to announce my verbal commitment to study and swim at the University of Akron! I immediately fell in love with the team, coaches, and campus when I visited. The girls made me feel as if I was already apart of the team. Akron is the place where I can develop both in the pool and the classroom. I cannot wait to work and compete with such an amazing team!
