Cameron van der Burgh Unleashes 3rd Ranked 100 Breast

Cameron van der Burgh unleashed a scorcher in the men’s 100-meter breast during day two of the South African Nationals.

Van der Burgh clocked a time of 59.78 to tie Felipe Lima for third in the world rankings.  Only Adam Peaty (59.04) and Yasuhiro Koseki (58.73) have been faster this year.  Marko Visser tied Ayrton Sweeney for a distance second place with matching 1:02.27s.

Vanessa Mohr won the women’s 100-meter fly in 1:00.21, while Jessica Ashley-Cooper took second in 1:01.14.  Marne Erasmus wound up third in 1:01.46.

Roland Schoeman captured the men’s 50-meter fly title in 23.69 with Nico Meyer (24.24) and Ryan Coetzee (24.45) taking second and third.  Michael Andrew, the 15-year-old American pro, wound up fourth in 24.49.

Erin Gallagher topped the women’s 50-meter free in 25.93 with Trudi Maree placing second in 26.05.  Emma Forbes-Milne took third in 26.60.

Marlies Ross won the women’s 200-meter IM in 2:17.00. Kirsty McLauchlan took second in 2:17.35 with Rene Warnes placing third in 2:18.66.

In semifinal action, Neil De Villiers led the men’s 100-meter back in 55.87.  Gerhard Zandberg clocked in with a second-seeded 55.90.

Tara Nicholas posted a 1:08.57 to pace the women’s 100-meter breast semis.  Tatjana Schoenmaker claimed second in 1:09.39.

Karin Prinsloo clocked a 1:02.21 to lead the women’s 100-meter back semis.  Mariella Venter turned in a second-seeded 1:03.02.

Chad le Clos cruised to the top time in the men’s 200-meter free semis with a 1:47.93.  Myles Brown, coming off a South African record in the 400 free yesterday, qualified second in 1:48.01.  Sebastien Rousseau snared third in 1:49.32.

Think you mean “Lima” rather than “Lipa” — unless of course there’s a new kid on the Brazilian block!
