Northwestern junior Calypso Sheridan had a great start to her season at the SMU Classic in Dallas as she won the 400 IM with a nice suited effort of 4:05.33 to lead the nation by six seconds. Sheridan is one of the few swimmers to wear a knee skin suit this early in the season as she is ahead of Louisville’s Maria Eduarda Sumida (4:11.83), who swam in the same heat as her.

This is still a legit time as it is not far off her 4:01 from last year and would have put her in the A-Final at last year’s NCAAs.

Sheridan had a busy day for the Wildcats as she also won the 100 back with a 52.85 and led off Northwestern’s 400 medley relay team with a 53.16. Fellow Wildcat Hannah Brunzell won the 100 breast for the Cats at 1:00.06 as she sits second in Division I thus far.

The SMU Classic is an annual meet usually held in early October between six teams and each school can only bring eight swimmers. Two swimmers are entered in each event and the teams wear suits.

Louisville’s Grace Oglesby won the 100 fly with a 51.62 as she moved to second in Division I this season thus far as she also split a 51.4 butterfly on the Cardinals’ medley relay.
