Cal Sweeps Pac-12 Swimmer of the Month with Bjorn Seeliger, Isabelle Stadden

Bjorn Seeliger and Isabelle Stadden swept the Pac-12 Swimmer of the Month honors for December, announced on Tuesday. Cal won all three awards announced, with Joshua Thai named the men’s diver of the month.

Seeliger won the 50 freestyle at the Minnesota Invitational with a time of 18.73 seconds, good for third-fastest in the nation. His time of 41.68 in the 100 free also earned gold in Minnesota and is third nationally.

Seeliger, a junior from Sweden, finished second in the 100 backstroke to teammate Destin Lasco at that meet. He also helped Cal win the 400 medley, 200 free and 200 medley relays.

Thai, a freshman from Alhambra, Calif., won the 1-meter event in Minnesota, his score of 346.45 setting the standard. The victory was the first for a Cal Golden Bear at a major event since 2019 (Connor Callahan). Thai also finished second in platform with a score of 324.95 and placed fourth on 3-meter (333.00). All three scores are Zone E qualifying marks.

Thai is just the fifth ever Cal diver recognized as Men’s Diver of the Month and the first since Tom Henninger in 2008.

Stadden, a junior, won two events in her home state of Minnesota. The Blaine native won the 100 back in 50.88 and the 200 back in 1:50.21. She was on four Cal relays that finished second at the Minnesota Invitational. That includes an A-cut 400 medley squad that went 3:30.96.
