Caitlin Leverenz, Jessica Long, Melissa Stockwell Nominated for 2012 ESPYs
STAMFORD, Connecticut, June 27. ESPN announced today its list of nominees for its various 2012 ESPY awards. Three swimming-related swimmers will need the community's help in voting for their respective events, while two are going head-to-head.
California's Caitlin Leverenz, who became an Olympian earlier this week with a second-place finish in the 400-meter IM at Trials, has been nominated for Best Female College Athlete after a tremendous 2011-12 campaign for the Golden Bears. She set the American record in the women's 200-yard IM (1:51.77) and 400-yard IM (3:57.89), and won the 200-yard breast (2:04.76). She also helped Cal to victory in the women's 200-yard and 400-yard medley relays.
Meanwhile, Paralympian Jessica Long blew up the U.S. Paralympic Trials earlier this summer with a whole slew of world-record performances to earn a nomination for Best Female Athlete With a Disability, while Paralympic triathlete Melissa Stockwell also made the nomination list for the award.
