Caeleb Dressel Visits Inside With Brett Hawke Podcast; Chasing Sub-21 Among Variety of Topics Discussed

During the more than 250 episodes of the Inside With Brett Hawke Podcast, the eponymous host has welcomed many of the biggest names in the sport. This week, the two-time Australian Olympian conducted an hour-long interview with American superstar Caeleb Dressel, who is gearing up for next month’s World Championships in Budapest.

Nearly a year removed from his exploits at the Olympic Games in Tokyo, where he claimed the sprint-freestyle double and set a world record on the way to gold in the 100-meter butterfly, Dressel will be a main attraction at the World Champs. He’ll tackle the same individual program he embraced at the Olympics, with the 50 butterfly added. Of course, he will also play a critical role on the Team USA relays.

In his interview with Hawke, Dressel discussed a variety of topics, including the chase of the world record of Cesar Cielo in the 50 freestyle. That standard has sat at 20.91 since 2009, when the super-suit circus was in play. Dressel owns a best of 21.04 in the one-lap sprint, and the perfect conditions could lead the U.S. standout to something special.

Hawke, who has established himself as a superb interviewer, got Dressel to speak about his competitiveness and how he handles the pressure and vast expectations which follow him to the starting blocks. The interview also covers topics such as his start, how he has been joined by Katie Ledecky in Gainesville and his thoughts on the recent freestyle depth exhibited by the Australian women at their Trials for the World Championships and Commonwealth Games.

Here is the complete interview, which can also be found below.
