Caeleb Dressel Pops Pair of Quick Times in 100 Freestyle and 200 Butterfly at ISCA Senior Cup
Already the owner of three victories at the ISCA International Senior Cup in St. Petersburg, Caeleb Dressel positioned himself for two more first-place finishes during Saturday morning’s preliminaries. Competing in the 100-yard freestyle and 200-yard butterfly, Dressel turned in a pair of strong performances to earn top seeds for the evening.
The two-time defending world champion in the 100 freestyle, Dressel cruised to the fastest time of the morning with a swim of 42.03, which was more than a second quicker than the 43.27 posted by Arsenio Bustos. Dressel is the American-record holder in the event at 39.90, the only time in history to break the 40-second barrier.
Dressel then shifted his attention to the 200 butterfly, where he came through with a marker of 1:40.68, an impressive outing given that Dressel remains in heavy training. Dressel was followed in second by Jack Conger, the American-record holder in the event and NCAA champion during his days at the University of Texas. Conger was timed in 1:42.85.
As has been the case throughout the meet, the finals will be held in the long-course format.
