Caeleb Dressel led off the men of the United States in record-breaking fashion, splashing past the existing American Record in the lead off 100 meters.

Dressel’s time of 47.26 edged past Dave Walters’ 2009 record of 47.33.

Comparative splits:

  • Dressel (2017): 22.29, 24.97 = 47.26
  • Walters (2009): 22.78, 24.55 = 47.33

Team USA teammates Townley Haas, Blake Pieroni, and Nathan Adrian would carry Dressel’s momentum throughout the final 300 meters of the race to finish first with a time of 3:10.06, holding off a charging Bruno Fratus and Team Brazil.
