Bucknell Swimming Hosts Boston, George Washington

LEWISBURG, Pennsylvania, October 19. Bucknell swimming had a successful outing as part of a double dual with Boston and George Washington on Saturday at the Kinney Natatorium.

Louis Behnen posted three wins and senior captains Erik Heinemann and Ben Seketa had two victories apiece to lead the Bucknell men’s swimming and diving team to victories over Boston U. and George Washington Saturday afternoon at Kinney Natatorium. The Bison defeated fellow Patriot League member Boston by a 159.5-139.5 margin and registered a 249-37 victory over the Colonials in the double dual. The Terriers defeated George Washington 238-49.

Saturday’s meet marked the first scored event of the year for Bucknell, which is now 2-0 after facing UMBC two weeks ago in an unscored meet.

Behnen led the way with his three victories as he finished first in the 1,000 free, 500 free and 200 IM. His time of 1:52.89 in the 200 IM was just .07 shy of 10th place in program history. Behnen led a 1-2-3-4 Bison sweep in the 500 free while he and Brian Phillips helped Bucknell swimmers claim the top two spots in the 1,000 free.

Heinemann claimed first place in the 200 free and 100 fly. He also had a runner-up showing in the 100 free where he was the top Bison finisher.

Seketa swept the 100 and 200 breast, winning the 100 by a slim .01 margin.

Steve Grune (50 free) and Tyler Wenzel (one-meter diving) also posted wins for the Bison.

Bucknell and Boston U. combined to win every event as the Bison totaled nine victories and the Terriers seven.

Freshman Chris Devlin posted two second-place finishes in the 100 and 200 back and was part of second-place relays in the 200 medley relay and 400 free relay. Fellow rookie Triston Loux gave the Bison three events where a rookie was their top finisher as he touched the wall second in the 200 fly.

Bucknell will hit the road for the first time this year next Saturday, Oct. 25, when it travels to Pittsburgh for a non-league dual meet.

The Bucknell women’s swimming and diving team hosted Boston U. and George Washington Saturday afternoon at Kinney Natatorium and came out with a 1-1 record. The Bison defeated George Washington by a 184-115 margin and fell to Boston U. 198-102 in the double dual. The Terriers came away with a 2-0 record as they downed the Colonials 226-73.

Boston U. claimed first place in 13 of the 16 events, while George Washington had two victories and Bucknell one. Emma Levendoski (100 back) posted the victory for the Bison, winning the 100 backstroke by 1.53 seconds. She also placed second in the 200 back and was part of Bucknell’s top relays in the 200 medley relay (3rd) and 400 free relay (2nd).

Ashley Henderson had a solid meet for the Bison, placing second in the 100 breast and 200 IM and third in the 200 breast. Bucknell was strong overall in the 100 breast as Henderson, Diana Hanson and Leah Bloodgood finished 2-3-4. Bloodgood, Henderson and Gina Gautieri went 2-3-4 in the 200 breast.

Freshman Julianna Foss was Bucknell’s top finisher in the 100 and 200 fly, while Lauren Perry led the way in the 100 and 200 free with top-five placings.

Paige Daniel (5th in 1,000 free), Maddi Marcheskie (4th in 50 free) and Alanna Nawrocki (6th in 500 free) were the other top Bison finishers in swimming events. Katie Hetherington (2nd off one-meter) and Tara Boyle (3rd off three-meter) had Bucknell’s top showings in diving.

Bucknell will hit the road for the first time this year next Saturday, Oct. 25, when it travels to Pittsburgh for a non-league dual meet.

The BU men’s swimming and diving team beat George Washington in its first double duel meet of the season at Bucknell on Saturday afternoon. The team amassed 377.5 points, the second-most behind Bucknell, who earned 408.5 points.

The team started the day with a win in the 200 medley relay, which was made up of Connor Stuewe, Mario Caballero, Ryan Bach and Brian Habacivich.

Stuewe then went on to win the 100 backstroke while Quinn Smith finished third in the event. Caballero took second in the 100 breaststroke, missing a first-place finish by one-hundredth of a second and Daniel Andronov finished in third in the race.

The Terriers did well in the 50 freestyle, taking second, third and fourth in the event. Habacivch missed first by two-tenths of a second and was followed by Cole Puchi and Linc Kupke.

Puchi then went on to win the 100 freestyle while Stuewe took first in the 200 backstroke.

Garrett Chin ended the day with a win in the 400 freestyle relay, which was made up of Stuewe, Andres Vazquez, Puchi and Habacivch.

The BU women’s swimming and diving team beat both Bucknell and George Washington in its first double dual meet of the season at Kinney Auditorium on Saturday afternoon. The Terriers totaled 424 points against the Bisons and Colonials to stay perfect on the season.

The Terriers dominated in the freestyle events, sweeping the top-four in the 500 and the top-three in the 1000. Sarah Hargrave, Stephanie Nasson and Grace Anderson finished first, second, and third in both events while Kaitlin Law took fourth in the 500.

BU also swept the top-three in the 100 and 200 freestyle. In the 100, Lauren Dixon, Isabella Olivares and Alexsa Savage finished in that order while Mika Spencer took first place in the 200 followed by Dixon in second and Nasson in third. Olivares and Savage also finished in first and second, respectively in the 50 freestyle.

Rounding out a dominant freestyle performance was a win and a third-place finish in the 400 freestyle relay.

In the 200 butterfly, Cece Simpson and Avery Visser took first and second. Visser also won the 100 butterfly and Katie Kenney finished behind her in second place.

Lizzie Tillo earned her second career victory in the 1-meter diving event while taking second in the 3-meter. Kalli Roebelen won the 3-meter event to sweep the women’s diving events.
Danielle Yoon grabbed some points with a second place finish in the 100 backstroke and a win in the 200 IM while Nikki Bookwalter earned her second career win in the 200 backstroke.

George Washington Press Release

Competing in its first dual meets of the 2014-15 season, the GW women’s swimming and diving team fell to Boston University, 226-73, and to host Bucknell, 184-115, on Saturday afternoon at Kinney Natatorium.

Senior Janica Lee paced all swimmers as she was a part of three first-place finishes on the afternoon, including two individual races and one relay event.

The 200-yard medley relay team of freshman Abigail Fusco, Lee and senior Morgan Zebley and rookie Hannah Kopydlowski won with a time of 1:48.08. The Colonials also finished sixth and seventh as freshman Tatyana Smolyansky, junior Lauren Steagall, sophomore Carly Whitmer and freshman Phoebe Turner finished in 1:50.55 and the team of juniors Hannah Schaefer and Mara Debnekoff and seniors Bianca Valencia and Brittany Liedholm clocked in at 1:56.11.

Lee then won the 100-yard breaststroke when she touched the wall in 1:07.10, then earned top honors in the 200 breast with a time of 2:25.92. In the 200 IM, Lee landed fourth places in 2:10.88.

Junior Madison Reinker took home fourth in the 1,000-yard freestyle as she finished in 10:43.14, and Whitmer (1:58.40), Reinker (1:58.70) and sophomore Lauren Law (1:59.15) finished in sixth, seventh and eighth, respectively, in the 200 free. In the 500 free, Fusco earned fifth in 5:15.63 and Reinker finished seventh in 5:17.82.

Kopydlowski earned a third-place finish in the 50 free in 24.67 seconds and finished in fourth place in the 100 free with a time of 54.36 seconds, while Turner (55.46) and Zebley (55.57) followed in seventh and eighth places. Zebley then clocked in at 57.36 seconds for a third-place finish in the 100-yard butterfly, and Whitmer (58.63) and Valencia (59.94) finished sixth and seventh. Whitmer also finished in fifth place in the 200 fly in 2:08.72.

Sophomore Jessica Ryabin finished 11th in the 1-meter dive with a score of 122.65 and freshman Iman Lee finished in 12th with 116.20 points. In the 3-meter five, Ryabin (123.95) finished 11th and Lee (80.40) finished in 12th.

The 400 free relay team of junior Maggie Hofstadter, Turner, Law and Kopydlowski wrapped the day with a fourth-place finish in 3:41.31.

GW returns to the pool on Saturday, Oct. 25 when it welcomes UMBC to the Smith Center Pool for its home opener. Action is slated for 1 p.m.

The GW men’s swimming and diving team dropped a pair of dual meets on Saturday afternoon, falling to Boston University, 238-49, and host Bucknell, 249-37, at Kinney Natatorium.

Senior Goran Koprivnjak paced the Colonials with four top-five finishes on the day.

The 200-yard medley team of freshman Gustav Hokfelt, senior Adam Rabe, junior Oliver Keegan and senior Goran Koprivnjak finished fifth with a time of 1:37.99.

Koprivnjak earned third in the 200-yard butterfly as he touched the wall in 1:54.84, and sophomore Bogdan Balteanu finished in fourth in the 100-yard freestyle in 47.31 seconds. Koprivnjak then finished fourth in the 200 IM in 1:56.30.

Sophomore Liam Huffman finished the 1,000 free in fifth place in 9:58.16, and freshman Parker Boutwell clocked in at 1:44.36 for a fourth-place finish in the 200 free.

The 400 free relay team of sophomore Ben Fitch, Koprivnjak, freshman Adam Drury and Balteanu wrapped the day with a fourth-place finish in 3:14.43.

GW returns to the pool on Saturday, Oct. 25 when it welcomes UMBC to the Smith Center Pool for its home opener. Action is slated for 1 p.m.
