Bruno Fratus, who represents Brazil internationally, announced on social media that he will be joining the International Swimming League as a member of the London Roar after swimming in a training session with team captain Adam Peaty.

Peaty has been training the last two weeks in Fort Lauderdale, Florida at the Pine Crest school with his coach Mel Marshall and invited Fratus, who lives and trains in nearby Coral Springs, to train with him for the day. And it turns out they did more than training on this Saturday morning as Peaty convinced Fratus to join his ISL team. He will be making his ISL debut next weekend in Lewisville, Texas as the London Roar will swim in Group B against the LA Current, NY Breakers and Team Iron. Fratus told Swimming World he will decide later if he will continue on to Budapest and eventually London, saying he intended on not swimming in the ISL at all, but “it sounded like a good idea after some nice Saturday morning hard work with Adam and his team.”

London Roar general manager Rob Woodhouse confirmed to Swimming World that Fratus will be on the roster.

Bruno Fratus is one of the top sprinters in the world, winning the silver medal in the 50 free at the World Championships this past summer with a 21.45 in a tie with Kristian Gkolomeev of Greece and the Aqua Centurions. Fratus has not done the 100 free much but split a 47.7 on Brazil’s sixth place 4×100 free relay at Worlds.

Fratus also won two gold medals at the Pan American Games this year with a win in the 50 (21.61) and a 48.1 split in the 4×100 free relay for Brazil.

The London Roar were entering the ISL next week as heavy favorites to get to Vegas and win the overall team title and with Fratus added to the roster, they will be even stronger heading into Texas next week. Putting Bruno Fratus on a sprint free relay with Kyle Chalmers, Duncan Scott and either Alex Graham, Yuri Kisil or Cam McEvoy is already a dangerous combo and they will be tough to beat.
