Bronwyn Tuff, Hudson Smith Pick Up Distance Titles on Night One of College Station Sectionals

COLLEGE STATION – Cypress Fairbanks’ Bronwyn Tuff and Brenham Swim Club’s Hudson Smith picked up wins in the 1500m free and 800m free, respectively, while Palo Alto Stanford Aquatics swept the 800m free relays on opening night of the Speedo Sectionals meet at Texas A&M University in College Station.

Tuff, 14, dropped nearly 13 seconds from her personal best in the women’s 1500m free, touching first in 17:17.94. Streamline Aquatics’ Ellery Parish had an even bigger time drop, taking more than 32 seconds off her previous best to finish second in 17:24.88. Morgan Johnson of Lost Creek Aquatics rounded out the top three in 17:47.91.

In the men’s 800m free, Smith topped the field with an 8:34.41, just over two seconds ahead of Alamo Area Aquatic Association’s Russell Hurrell-Zitelman (8:36.89). Hurrell-Zitelman’s teammate, Hunter Lane, also made the top three with an 8:39.77.

Palo Alto Stanford Aquatics’ foursome of Isabelle Henig, Chloe Kennedy Isleta, Matte Snow and Jennifer Campbell paced the 800m free relay final with an 8:25.56. Cypress Fairbanks took second in 8:34.47, led by Tuff, Conor Glenn, Claire Smith and Alyvia Beaudion. Summer Spradley, Whitney Jorgensen, Dasha Pastushenko and Jordan Anderson gave the Sierra Marlins a third place showing in 8:36.62.

On the men’s side, Alex Liang, Benjamin Ho, Daichi Matsuda and Joseph Molinari gave Palo Alto Stanford the relay sweep with a winning time of 7:37.64. Cypress Fairbanks finished nearly 10 seconds behind, with Braxton Flowers, Sean Morey, Dillon Simpson and Alexander Ellison coming in at 7:47.33. The Sierra Marlins placed third in 7:48.92, thanks to strong swims from Bryce Mefford, Liam O’Haimhirgin, Ethan Dillard and Matthew Klotz.

Cypress Fairbanks leads the team standings through four events with 170 points, followed by Palo Alto Stanford (134) and Alamo Area (117).
