After winning an Olympic silver medal as a prelims swimmer on Great Britain’s 800 free relay this summer in Rio, Great Britain’s Robbie Renwick has announced his retirement, according to a report by the BBC.

“I’m incredibly proud and privileged to have raced for my country and for the career I have been afforded through sport. Swimming will always be close to my heart and this is merely just a new chapter starting,” Renwick told the BBC.

Renwick competed for Britain at the 2008, 2012 and 2016 Olympic Games and for Scotland at the 2006, 2010 and 2014 Commonwealth Games. He won a World title in 2015 as a member of the 800 free relay squad that broke the decade-long American winning streak in the event. Renwick told the BBC that “it is difficult to do justice to that feeling; it was like standing on top of the world.”

Renwick was left off the finals squad of the 800 free relay in Rio that went on to earn a silver medal. He called the moment “bittersweet,” but in the months since he has become proud what he contributed to that relay.

“I’ve been lucky enough to share the pool with many talented swimmers over the years, but to be part of Team GB at our most successful Games ever is priceless and a perfect way to close such an incredible chapter in my life. Despite moving on from competitive swimming I will stay involved and I am looking forward to focusing my efforts on the development and business side of the sport,” he said, according to the BBC.
