AUSTIN – Texas’ Brett Ringgold set up a potential Big 12 record in finals of the 100-yard free with a strong swim this morning at the Big 12 Championships.

Men’s Meet

Texas’ Ian LeMaistre, swimming as a B swimmer and not available for team points, topped qualifying in 1:43.00 in the men’s 200-yard back.  That’s a bit slower than the 1:42.90 he clocked during time trials on Wednesday. Jack Conger clocked in with a 1:43.54 to also make the A final. TCU’s Cooper Robinson closed out the top three in 1:44.81.

Texas freshman Brett Ringgold put himself within striking distance of the Big 12 meet record of 42.43 set by Jimmy Feigen in 2009 in the 100-yard free as Ringgold scorched prelims with a 42.98.  That’s also close to the NCAA A cut time of 42.51.

West Virginia’s Tim Squires qualified second with a time of 43.54, while Texas’ Keith Murphy took third overall in 43.74.

Will Licon continued his strong week with a 1:53.99 to top the 200-yard breaststroke this morning.  That’s just Nick D’Innocenzo’s meet record of 1:53.68.

Liam Lockwood (1:55.96), Austin Temple (1:57.34) and Jared Butler (1:57.68) closed out the top four in the event.

John Martens topped the 200-yard fly prelims with a time of 1:44.00, while Joseph Schooling (1:47.05) and Tripp Cooper (1:47.07) also made the A final.

Women’s Meet

Texas’ Tasija Karosas led the way in the women’s 200-yard back with a 1:54.88, far surpassing the rest of the field. Teammate Rebecca Baxley took second out of the morning with a 1:57.86, while Kansas’ Yulduz Kuchkaro snared third in 1:58.12.

Texas’ Rebecca Millard (49.17) and Mimi Schneider (49.72) each posted NCAA B cuts this morning in the women’s 100-yard freestyle, while TCU’s Julia Sanders rounded out the top three qualifiers with a 50.33.

Texas’ Gretchen Jaques crushed prelims in the 200-yard breast with a 2:08.57.  No one came even remotely close to matching her time this morning.  Iowa State’s Kasey Roberts qualified second in 2:13.07 with Texas’ Madisyn Cox closing out third with a 2:13.28.

Texas’ Kelsey Leneave took the top seed in the women’s 200-yard fly with a time of 1:58.44, while Kansas’ Chelsie Miller snared second overall in 1:58.76.  West Virginia’s Julie Ogden closed out the third seed with a 2:00.27.
