After a successful two years as a member of the Florida Gulf Coast University swim team Katie Armitage has announced her transfer to the University of Tennessee beginning fall of 2016.

As a freshman with FGCU Armitage collected CCSA All-Conference honors and was named to the College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) First Team All-American team after winning both the 100-Y (1:00.28) and 200-Y (2:13.05) breaststroke. Armitage participated on multiple record-breaking relays at the CCSA Championships as well.

Success continued for Armitage when she reset the CCSA conference record in the 200-Y breaststroke with a time of 2:11.51, and was a member of the champion 400 medley (3:33.92) and 200 medley (1:37.66) medley relays.

Armitage will be joining a relatively young team as the Vols graduated only five athletes from their roster at the conclusion of the 215-16 season. Her winning 100 breast time of 1:00.28 from her freshman year at FGCU would have earned her eighth place at this year’s SEC Championships, while her 200 breast record of 2:11.51 would have earned her twelfth putting her in a good position to be a high scorer for the Lady Vols.

When talking about her upcoming transfer Armitage gleefully expressed, “I’m super excited to be joining such an amazing team. I’m truly blessed that I have been given this opportunity. I cannot wait until next season to start racing as a Tennessee Vol!”
