Brazilian Open Long Course Championships: Joanna Maranhao, Thiago Pereira, Nicolas Oliveira Set Meet Records

RIO DE JANEIRO, Brazil, December 17. THE third day of racing at the Brazilian Open Long Course Championships is in the books.

Joanna Maranhao set the meet record in the women's 400 IM with a 4:40.79 during prelims, before winning the title during the following morning with a 4:43.56. Bruna Primati (5:01.92) and Larissa Cieslak (5:02.37) earned second and third.

Thiago Pereira posted a meet-record 4:18.10 in the men's 400 IM prelims before scratching finals. Thiago Simon won the title in 4:24.02, while Diogo Yabe touched second in 4:24.49. Renato Barufi finished third in 4:28.52.

Nicolas Oliveira clocked a meet-record 1:48.07 in the men's 200 free during prelims, before winning the race in finals with a 1:49.01. Joao De Lucca took second in 1:49.17, while Andre Schultz picked up third in 1:49.72.

Nicholas Dos Santos led prelims in 23.55, while Glauber Silva qualified second in 23.57 in the men's 50 fly. Silva won the finale in 23.69, while Henrique Martins (23.97) and Filipe Nunes (24.19) finished second and third. Dos Santos scratched the finale. Dos Santos already ranks second in the world with a 23.20 from Paris in the summer, while Silva's preliminary time pushed him to 14th in the world rankings.

Daniel Paoli Jesus clocked a 27.05 during prelims of the women's 50 fly before winning the finale in 27.20. Bruna Rocha took second in 27.32, while Dandara Antonio placed third in 27.53. Manuella Lyrio won the women's 200 free in 2:01.91, while Larissa Oliveira earned second in 2:02.14. Ana Marcela Da Cunha placed third in 2:04.49.

Ana Carvalho turned in a 1:11.60 during prelims of the women's 100 breast before winning the title in 1:11.66. Juliana Marin took second in 1:11.78, while Tatiane Sakemi earned third in 1:12.07. Joao Gomes Jr. topped the men's 100 breast in 1:00.40, while Henrique Barbosa took second in 1:01.15. Raphael Rodrigues snared third in 1:01.63.

Meanwhile, Cesar Cielo reportedly clocked a 21.58 as the leadoff of his team's 200 free relay. That swim just missed his top-ranked effort of 21.52 from Worlds.
