Brazil Long Course Championships: Men’s Relay Sets South American Record

SAO PAULO, Brazil, December 19. AFTER a world record effort from Cesar Cielo yesterday, the Brazil Long Course Championships produced a South American mark in the men's 200 free relay.

Nicholas Dos Santos, Cielo, Bruno Fratus and Nicolas Oliveira topped the men's 200 free relay South American record with a time of 1:26.12.

Daynara De Paula opened prelims in the women's 50 fly with a meet record time of 26.43. She settled for just the win in the finale with a 26.71. Dos Santos lowered the meet record in prelims of the men's 50 fly with a 23.10. He then matched that time in finals with a 23.10 for the win.

Joanna Maranhao set the meet record in the women's 400 IM prelims with a top time of 4:44.87. She returned in finals with a triumphant 4:42.95. Meanwhile, Henrique Rodrigues won the men's 400 IM with a 4:23.46. Rodrigues is rumored to be on his way to Auburn University next month.

In prelims of the 200 free, Monique Ferreira downed the meet record in the women's qualifying heats with a 2:02.24. Thiago Pereira did the same among the men with a 1:49.66. Tatiana Barbosa, however, upended Ferreira in finals, 2:01.26 to 2:04.03, while Pereira faded to fifth in the men's finale with a 1:49.43. Oliveira claimed the men's 200 free title in 1:48.21.

Tatiane Sakemi snagged the meet record in the women's 100 breast with a 1:09.27 for the win. Henrique Barbosa claimed the men's 100 breast title in 1:00.08.

Flavia Delaroli-Cazziolato, Michelle Lenhardt, Julyana Kury and Tatiana Barbosa won the women's 200 free relay in 1:41.06 – a meet record.
