Boise State Adds Two More Swimmers To 2010-2011 Roster

BOISE, Idaho, April 20. THE 2010 WAC champion Boise State swimming and diving team announced the addition of two swimmers to next year's roster.

Head coach Kristin Hill announced the signing of Kelsy Diener and Brooke Balogh to National Letters of Intent. Diener and Balogh will join Olivia Harrel, Chelsea Miller, Rachel Heaney and Ciera Cortney, who all signed during the fall signing period, on the 2010-2011 roster.

"We are really excited about this incoming group of swimmers and divers. This is arguably our best recruiting class to date, but this time they are joining a team that is coming off a conference championship title so the standard for future success is high," commented Hill.

Diener, a native of Mesa, Ariz., will join the Broncos after spending two years at San Diego State. Diener made her mark on the Aztecs program as she holds top-10 times in three events. Her time of 57.46 in the 100 back ranks sixth all-time while her mark of 2:00.94 in the 200 back is the third-best time in Aztec history. Her time of 2:04.67 in the 200 IM also ranks third in the all-time Aztec record book. Diener finished 12th in the 200 back at the Mountain West Conference Championships last year.

"I chose Boise State primarily because of the team, and because the school is so wonderful and beautiful," said Diener. "Academically, they work the student-athletes as individuals and I just loved the atmosphere in athletics and the entire community around Boise State."

Diener is no stranger to success as she was a high school All-American and holds several records at Red Mountain High School. She was also named an Academic All-American in addition to being a two-time Arizona 5A state champion.

"We are excited and fortunate to have Kelsy joining our program," added Hill. "She is going to really add strength and depth to our freestyle, IM and backstroke events which were already strengths, but it will allow us to have more flexibility in our meet lineups next season."

Balogh will join the Broncos out of Lincoln Southeast High School and the Lincoln Select Swimming Club in Lincoln, Neb. Balogh will join the WAC Champion Broncos after an extremely successful prep career. She was named a high school All-American in addition to being named to the Nebraska All-State team. Prior to moving to Lincoln, Balogh was also named to the Michigan All-State team and still holds several records at Monroe high School.

"I was looking for an up-and-coming program that I could contribute to, while being challenged to improve," said Balogh. "After meeting with the coaches, visiting the coaches and meeting the team, I had no doubt that I wanted to become part of this program."

In addition to her success in the pool, Balogh had a great deal of success in the classroom. She graduated as the valedictorian of Lincoln Southeast High School and was named an Academic All-American by the National Interscholastic Swim Coaches Association.

"I'm impressed by Brooke's attitude and her swimming accomplishments," added Hill. "Brooke has high goals and understands what it takes to get better. She will add balance to the team in fly, IM and middle distance freestyle. She has great character, and like all of our incoming freshmen, is an excellent student which really helps in the transition to college, both academically and athletically."

This recruiting class is the best-to-date, according to Coach Hill, and will help in the Broncos' quest to defend their WAC title. Hill is excited to see what the future brings for the Broncos. "Five of the six student-athletes committed to our program when winning the championships was still just a vision," stated Hill. "Now that it's a reality each and every one of our incoming and returning team members are fired up to build a new tradition of winning and surpassing this season's accomplishments. We want to move forward and be a team that is represented well at the NCAA Championships and with next year's team that should become a reality."

The Broncos have now signed five swimmers and one diver to next year's roster after losing just three seniors after the 2009-10 season. The Broncos won the 2010 WAC championship in only their fourth year in existence as a program. With high hopes for this new recruiting class, the Broncos are shaping up to make a run at their second WAC title.
