Coaching superstars Bob Bowman and David Marsh are confirmed to speak at the FINA Swimming Coaches Golden Clinic in Windsor, Canada, 4-5 December 2016.

As head coaches of the hugely successful men’s and women’s 2016 U.S. Olympic Swimming Team, Bowman and Marsh oversaw a program that redefined success.

With 16 gold medals — three fewer than the rest of the world combined — and 33 overall, USA Swimming won nearly half of the medals presented in the pool competition.

Joining Bowman and Marsh is British Swimming’s Head Coach Bill Furniss, and Royal Spanish Swimming Federation Coach Fred Vergnoux.

Furniss previously coached four-time Olympic medallist Rebecca Adlington, before leading British Swimming (at Rio 2016) to its biggest Olympic medal haul since 1984.

Vergnoux is no stranger to records – over 244 have been broken under his watch. He now coaches Mireia Belmonte who, on winning the 200m Butterfly in Rio, became the first Spanish woman to win an Olympic Swimming gold medal.

Completing the stellar line-up is Ben Titley, Head Coach of the 2016 Canadian Olympic Swimming Team, and Magnus Kjellberg, Coach and Swim Analyst for Japan Swimming Federation.

Titley oversaw a team that, courtesy of 16-year-old sensation Penny Oleksiak, won its first gold medal in 24 years. The team also broke 14 Canadian records, and amassed more medals (6) than in its previous four Olympics combined (5).

Kjellberg played a key role in Japan’s 34-swimmer team – the 2nd biggest team in its Olympic history – taking home a total of nine medals in Swimming and Synchronised Swimming.

“We’re delighted to announce some of the biggest names in coaching for this year’s Coaches Clinic,” says FINA President Dr. Julio C. Maglione.

“It really is a unique opportunity to meet the people responsible for guiding our stars to Olympic glory, as well as a chance for them to unveil the secrets of their success.”

These coaches are speaking as if they actually coached the athletes on these Olympic teams. Yes, Bob had Phelps and Chase, and Marsh had a few on the team. But to speak as if they were responsible for the majority of the results is a farce. Bowman and Marsh are no more qualified to speak on the results of the Olympic team than the personal coaches of these athletes that got them there.
