This week is set for some exciting Big 12 action as every team, except the Texas men and women, is hosting a meet. This week will hold the first Big 12 head-to-head dual of the season with TCU’s women’s squad taking on Kansas.

Outside of Fort Worth, Texas West Virginia University hosts Seton Hall and Xavier while Iowa State Hosts Omaha.

Here’s a closer look at the coming week:

TCU Men and Women Split Duals

The Texas Christian University men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams will each host their own dual meets this week, with the men’s team hosting Southern Methodist University today and, four days later the women’s squad will host Kansas University.

This will be TCU’s first chance to race since their travel to the Sunshine State for the FIU Invite. All teams are set for fast swimming. The men’s team is set for challenge with the Mustangs this weekend after being swept in 15 out of 16 events in their dual last year.

The Horned Frogs do have freshman standout Joao Andrade, who has been their go-to guy for most of the freestyle events. Freshman teammate Radu Duican will also be in action, taking the backstroke responsibility. The other strokes, along with IM and relays, look like they belong the SMU this weekend.

Just three days later the Lady Horned Frogs will take on Kansas, who just came off two strong performances over the past two weekends. Kansas will certainly have the momentum but TCU is likely anxious to get up on the blocks after having not done so in almost a month. Kansas put together some great sprint freestyle last weekend, which is an area TCU should be strong in as well given their talent in the shorter events.

West Virginia Hosts Seton Hall on Friday and Xavier on Saturday

In a meet that, in that past, has included Butler University the Mountaineers will be looking to hold down their home territory during their matchups with Seton Hall and Xavier this Friday and Saturday.

The mountaineers will host Seton Hall University first, on Friday at 6 p.m. and will take on Xavier the next morning at 10 a.m.

The West Virginia men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams are both coming off a first place finish at the West Virginia State Games, a meet which showed promise for the Mountaineers’ coming season.

On the men’s side, Senior Nate Carr will be looking to lead the team to victory, being WVU’s most talented all around swimmer, Carr could likely swim many different events and strokes this weekend.

The women will point to freshman standouts Olivia Heflin and Sofia Bernard to step up and race the veterans on the rosters of Seton Hall and Xavier.

Iowa State Hosts Omaha

Iowa State University’s women’s swimming and diving team, the only swim team on it’s campus, will host Omaha this weekend.

The Cyclones are coming off a lose from Nebraska last weekend. Despite the loss, they did throw down some fast times which bodes well for their dual against Omaha. Last weekend it was sophomore Anna Andersen who posted a 51.85 in the 100 Free, which should help relay situations for the cyclones as well.

Sprinter Laura Miksch was able to swim a 23.86 in the 50 free last weekend, while Keely Soellner swam the 1000 freestyle in 10:24.91 so the Cyclones have many bases covered as Omaha attempts to beat them at home.
