Big 12 Announces Weekly Awards

IRVING, Texas, November 30. THE conference office has announced Big 12 Swimmers and Divers of the Week for meets of Nov. 6 – Nov. 26. Matt McGinnis (Texas) was awarded Swimmer of the Week for the men while Eric Sehn (Texas A&M) was honored as the men's Diver of the Week. On the women's side, Julia Wilkinson (Texas A&M) won Swimmer of the Week while Tien Tran (Iowa State) and Shelby Noonan (Kansas) were named Co-Divers of the Week. The student-athletes were chosen by a vote of the league's head swimming and diving coaches.

McGinnis placed first in three different events – two individual races and one relay. In the 200 freestyle he swam a time of 1:36.6, with a mark of 44.22 in the 100 freestyle. Swimming the anchor leg in the 400 freestyle relay, his team finished in 2:59.91 as he contributed his 43.76 time. He swam NCAA provisional-qualifying times in both of the individual races. His anchor time in the freestyle relay was the single fastest leg of the meet. McGinnis helped Texas narrow a 126-117 win over No. 10 Florida.

Sehn also achieved three first place finishes with his dives at the inaugural Art Adamson Invitational. He moved his record to 7-0 and set school records on the three-meter board and the platform. He received 354.10 points for the one-meter springboard, 407.15 for the three-meter springboard and 414.35 for the 10-meter platform.

Wilkinson achieved eight first place marks at the Art Adamson Invitational and set school records in the 200 individual medley (1:58.49) and the 200 backstroke (1:55.48). In the 200 freestyle relay, she contributed her 22.37 time in the third leg with a 1:31.00 total time. Leading off in the 400 medley she chipped in her 54.80 time to the relay team's 3:39.89. For the 200 medley she swam an anchor time of 22.62 for her relay team and 1:47.52 in the 800 freestyle relay. In the 100 backstroke, she marked a time of 53.79 and a 1:55.48 in the 200 backstroke. Wilkinson accomplished five out of six individual ‘A' cuts.

Tran placed fifth in the one-meter, third in the three-meter and eighth on the platform at the Minnesota Invitational. She earned her highest mark (269.05) for the three-meter dives. The freshman scored 248.25 points in the one-meter and 187.8 for the platform.

Noonan finished the Terrrapin Cup Invitational with two second place diving scores. She earned 255.30 for her one-meter dives and 275.85 for her three-meter. This marks the first time the senior has received the weekly award.
