Best of the Best – Russian Named Swimming World Synchro Swimmer of the Year

PHOENIX, Arizona, November 24. THE next Swimming World award up to be announced is the Synchro Swimmer of the Year. This year, Russian Natalia Ischenko proved to be head and shoulders above the rest en route to claiming the honor.

Taylor Payne, the media relations director for USA Synchro, provided Swimming World with a top-notch feature on Ischenko as part of being honored with the award. Here are some snippets from the article:

Russia's Natalia Ischenko was the top individual performer on the world's best synchronized swimming team in 2007. She dominated the competition at the World Championships, winning five medals—four gold and a silver.

Ischenko, a former two-time junior world champion, burst onto the elite level of competition in 2005 when she appeared in her first World Championships at the age of 19.

She took home a gold medal in the team event and added a silver medal in the solo. In 2006, Ischenko secured her first major solo title at the FINA World Cup, and also earned gold medals in the team and combo events.

The best was yet to come! At this year's World Championships, Ischenko captured five medals, including four gold and one silver. Needless to say, she is Swimming World Magazine's Synchronized Swimmer of the Year.
