Wisconsin senior Beata Nelson won the 100 back on Friday night at the 2019 NC State Invitational in Greensboro with a 50.05 as she currently leads the nation in that event. Nelson is the defending NCAA champion in the 100 back and also holds the American record. She showed why she will still be tough to beat this season as she was able to take down rising star in freshman Katharine Berkoff of NC State (51.97) by nearly two seconds.

Nelson also swam the 100 fly this morning but scratched to focus on the backstroke. Duke’s Alyssa Marsh won in her absence at 51.25 ahead of Kylee Alons (52.27) and Duke’s Kylie Jordan (52.28).
