Budding Brisbane freestyler Bailey Coleman has added a third gold medal in an outstanding Australian Age record time on night five of the 2016 Georgina Hope Foundation Australian Age Swimming Championships in Adelaide tonight.

The 13-year-old clocked an eye-catching 4:05.47 to swim away from the field over the final 200 metres in another impressive performance.

The teenage cousin of former Australian Commonwealth Games, World Championship and Pan Pac representative Katie Goldman added the 400m to earlier gold medals in the 200m and 800m freestyle, his bronze in the 100m freestyle and silver in the 100m butterfly.

His 800m time of 8:35.67 was just 0.17 off 2015 Fina World Championship bronze medallist Mack Horton’s 2010 Australian record of 8:35.50.

The youngster was taking no chances tonight, taking a whopping 2.31secs off Gold Coaster Elijah Winnington’s 2014 National mark of 4:07.78 and if Winnington’s form this week is any indication then Coleman certainly moving in the right direction.

Winnington (Bond Swimming), who is coached by Richard Scarce, won the 15 years 400 freestyle two nights ago in an impressive 3.53.90 and added the 200m tonight in an equally impressive 1:50.32.

Coleman’s coach at Southside Aquatics, Lachlan Staples, himself a former World Championship swimmer in Rome in 2009, says his young change has a “great work ethic with maturity beyond his years.”

And looking at his swims this week that work ethic is paying dividends.

Coleman’s splits in his deserved 400 Australian record were 57.99; 1:59.94 and 3:03.00 – his 50 pacing was spot on – 27.78; 30.21; 30.73; 31.22; 31.46; 31.60; 31.88 and 30.59.

The silver medal went to another outstanding 13-year-old in All Saints backstroking-butterflying all-rounder Thomas Hauck (4:11.93) with the consistent Robert Bonsall (UWA West Coast, WA) third in 4:12.67.

Another record swim went to Marion SA’s Emily Liu in the 15-years 200m freestyle who clocked a new Australian 15 years Age All-Comers mark of 1:58.86 – 0.81secs under Shayna Jack’s 2014 time of 1:59.67.

Liu, who has been coached by Shelly Jarrett, the coach who has played a major role in the development of Olympic hope Kyle Chalmers, is a Chinese National, who has applied for Australian citizenship.

The silver medal went to Molly Batchelor (Melbourne Vic Centre, VIC) 2:00.74 Ariarne Titmus (Nudgee College, QLD) 2:01.60

Meanwhile Brisbane’s St Peters Western and Gold Coast’s TSS Aquatics have continued their “duel in the pool” with both clubs again producing outstanding results.
