Ava Ohlgren Closes Oxford Speedo Sectional With Style
OXFORD, Ohio, July 26. AVA Ohlgren put on her travel gear after an incredible meet at the Oxford Speedo Sectional on Thursday. Just for good measure, she wound up clocking two more meet records as the event in long course meter competition.
First, she ripped off a meet-record time of 2:14.13 in the 200 IM to destroy the 2:18.65 set by Justine Mueller on March 21, 2004. That time also improved her from 21st in the world this year to 13th.
Ohlgren returned at the end of the meet to lodge a 55.96 meet-record readout in the 100 freestyle, which also obliterated the 57.43 set by Lauren Preyss on July 29, 2004.
Lindsay Vrooman, 15, of Pine Richland eased into the women's 1500 free title with a time of 17:20.74 to conclude the rest of the women's meet.
On the men's side of the equation, Jared Miller of the Cincinnati Marlins won the 200 IM in 2:07.72, while Austin Staab of Westerville Aquatics took home the 100 free crown in 51.72 after touching out Ryan McHugh of Redhawk Aquatics (51.79).
Rob Andrews, 17, of Great Lakes held off Matt Lee of Bulldog Aquatics, 8:22.85 to 8:23.13, for the men's 800 free title.
