Australian Swim Team Arrives in Perth for Aquatic Super Series

PERTH, Australia, January 28. MEMBERS of the Australian Swim Team have landed in Perth today ahead of the 2014 BHP Billiton Aquatic Super Series which commences this Friday, 31 January at VenuesWest Challenge Stadium.

The 30-strong-team will put the final touches on their race preparations at training this week, before they take on the might of Brazil, China, Japan and South Africa over two nights of head-to-head racing this Friday and Saturday from 5:30pm.

World Champion sprinter Cate Campbell was one of the swimmers to touch-down today, flying over from her home port in Brisbane with teammates and training partners Bronte Campbell and Christian Sprenger.

After a sizzling season last year that saw the 21-year-old swim sub-53 seconds for the 100m freestyle on numerous occasions, Cate said she was looking forward to testing her speed against quality international rivals and in front of a home crowd this weekend.

“In Australia we don’t get the chance to test ourselves against international opponents that often, so having the BHP Billiton Aquatic Super Series early in the season is a great opportunity for us to gauge our preparation,” Campbell said.

The Australian swimmers will compete as a team for the first time since the Barcelona World Championships in 2013 and for the first time under new Head Coach Jacco Verhaeren.

“There was a really positive team spirit in Barcelona, so I’m looking forward to getting back together with the team and racing together in front of a home crowd in Western Australia.”

The BHP Billiton Aquatic Super Series will officially begin this Friday, January 31 with tickets available through www.ticketmaster.com.au
