Australian Olympian Grant Hackett Arrested at Parent’s Home, Released Without Charges

Grant-Hacket (1)

Reports Coming from the Sydney Morning Herald state that police were called to the home of Grant Hackett’s parents following a disturbance.  The 36-year-old Olympic swimmer was reported to be agitated and verbally aggressive.

Other outlets reported that Hackett was “going off” and stabbing a chopping block.

He was led away in handcuffs, but later released without charges.

Following Hackett’s release, his brother, Craig Hackett, told the media that Grant Hackett was not his usual self.

“The whole family have done everything that we can but now it’s kind of out of our hands, it really is,” Craig Hackett expressed. “This is not Grant Hackett. This is a completely different person. I don’t know this person, my mum and dad don’t know this person. He’s there in body but he’s not there in mind, soul or spirit.”

Hackett, a three-time Olympic gold medallist and considered to be one of Australia’s greatest swimmers, has struggled with personal issues and addiction.

In April of 2016 Hackett was admitted to a hospital for what was reported at the time as an inflammation in the throat. This was after a fight altercation on an airplane in which alcohol was involved.
