Aussie Singing Star Cody Simpson Training Under Brett Hawke

These days, Cody Simpson is known as a worldwide singing sensation, the Australian native having released multiple albums while also performing and working with some major names in the music business, such as Miley Cyrus, Flo Rida and Justin Bieber. The 23-year-old Simpson was also the winner of the 2019 season of Australia’s version of The Masked Singer.

On Thursday night, Simpson returned to a career that first made him a standout when he raced at a private meet in San Diego. Contesting the 200-meter freestyle in a short-course setting, Simpson covered the distance in 1:56.0.

For the past four months, Simpson has been training with former Auburn University coach and two-time Olympian Brett Hawke. Simpson has been working with Hawke in the Los Angeles area, often training in a country-club pool. The competition Simpson engaged in on Thursday was an opportunity to measure his progress from training.

Before Simpson found stardom in the music industry, and also celebrated acting and modeling success, he was an age-group swimming star in Australia and harbored dreams of racing at the Olympic Games. As a youth, Simpson was a Queensland age-group champ in the 100 butterfly and 200 individual medley. While those victories arrived in 12-and-under competition, anyone familiar with the sport recognizes the talent racing at any level in Queensland.

How Simpson’s training will proceed remains to be seen, but the multi-talented Australian has been dedicated to his work in the pool with Hawke.
