Auburn Will Visit White House as Reward for Winning NCAA Title

AUBURN, Ala., USA, July 9. THE Auburn University men’s swimming and diving team will visit the White House on July 12 and be recognized by President George W. Bush. The Tigers were invited to Washington as a reward for capturing a third consecutive NCAA championship. This is the first time Auburn has been invited to the White House.

En route to its most recent NCAA title, Auburn benefited from victories from Fred Bousquet and Matt Bricker. A French Olympian, Bousquet won the 50-yard freestyle and became the first man in history to crack the 19-second barrier. As for Bricker, the diver earned a national championship on the 10-meter platform. Overall, the Tigers collected 55 All-American selections.

"It is the highest honor to be invited to the White House," Auburn head coach David Marsh said. "On behalf of the swim team, Auburn University and all Auburn people, we are very excited. I am most excited for our athletes and the opportunity they will have to shake hands with one of today's leaders. This is a great honor and we're extremely appreciative at the opportunity to visit the White House and meet the President of the United States.

The Auburn senior class of Chad Barlow, Bousquet, Bricker, B.J. Jones, Nate Knopf, Andrew Sivulka and Ryan Wochomurka finished their collective careers with nine individual NCAA titles, three NCAA team titles, 25 individual SEC titles, four SEC team titles and 74 All-American honors, as well as a perfect 30-0 dual meet record.
