Ashley Twichell, Connor Jaeger Claim Distance Titles At Night One Of 2016 Charlotte Arena Pro Series

The fifth stop of the Arena Pro Swim Series kicked off today in Charlotte, North Carolina with some of the men’s and women’s distance free events. The women participated in the 1500-meter free while the men swam the 800-meter free. On Sunday they will switch.

Ashley Twichell, open water swimming phenom, cruised to a first place finish in the women’s 1500-meter free. Twichell stopped the clock at the 16:11.19 mark, more than five seconds ahead of the competition. Her time boosts her to second in the world rankings for 2016 behind only Mireia Belmonte of Spain (16:08.38).

Posting the second fastest time of the afternoon was Kristel Kobrich with a time of 16:16.15. Gillian Ryan rounded out the top three with a 16:32.21.

On the men’s side it was Connor Jaeger of Club Wolverine who touched first with a final time of 7:54.49. Jaeger’s time moves him to eighth in the world rankings for 2016.

Zane Grothe posted a close second, stopping the clock at the 7:57.00 mark, while Marcelo Acosta turned in a third place finish of 8:05.79.
