Arizona vs. UCLA

LOS ANGELES, California, November 13. THE UCLA swimming and diving team suffered their first loss of the season after falling to Arizona 168-132 on Saturday in dual meet action. Despite the loss, the Bruins had some impressive times, posting 24 season-best marks, two event sweeps, four event wins and one meet record during the competition. UCLA is now 7-1 (2-1 Pac-10) on the season.

Junior Yasi Jahanshahi was a double event winner for the second consecutive day as she won both the 100 fly (54.49) and 200 fly (1:59.61) events. She is undefeated in both fly events this season. The Bruins swept the 200 fly behind Jahanshahi’s win. Placing second was Bianca Casciari (2:00.63) and Stephanie Christofferson (2:02.21, season-best).

Senior Lauren Hall also had a big meet as she won the 200 IM with a new facility and meet record, swimming a season-best and NCAA “B” time of 2:01.01. She was also second in the 200 breast with a season-best and NCAA “B” swim of 2:14.15. She then ended her day as the anchor leg of the 400 free relay that placed second with a season-best time of 3:25.15. Also on that relay were Cynthia Fascella, Kathryn Murphy and Emily Andelson.

Hall led a sweep in the 200 IM as Laurence Delisle was second (2:04.53) and Andrea Reigel was third (2:04.69).

Brittany Beauchan won the 200 breaststroke (2:14.82) as she remains undefeated in that event.

The 200 medley relay team of Reigel, Beauchan, Jahanshahi and Murphy swam a season-best and NCAA “B” time of 1:42.23 to finish second overall.

In diving action, Karina Silva and Haley McNamara led the way as Silva was second on 1M (257.40) and McNamara was second on 3M (278.63).

The Bruin swimmers will head to Long Beach and the Belmont Olympic Plaza Pool next for the Arena Invitational (Nov. 18-20), while the divers will be off from competition until the Texas Invite (Dec. 2-4).
