Ariarne Titmus Has ‘Made Some Shifts’ As She Targets Commonwealth Games (VIDEO)

After winning Olympic gold medals in the 200 and 400 freestyle last year in Tokyo, Ariarne Titmus took the next step in her career by taking down Katie Ledecky’s world record in the 400 free in May, her time of 3:56.40 sneaking under the 3:56.46 that Ledecky swam in 2016. Also in April, Titmus again scared Federica Pellegrini’s 13-year-old standard in the 200 free, and she will have a chance to lower both records at next week’s Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, England.

Titmus skipped last month’s World Championships to concentrate on the Commonwealth Games, but after Worlds concluded, she joined her Australian teammates in Europe for an extended training camp. In a video provided by Swimming Australia, Titmus called her 400 free world record “one of the best 400s I have swum,” and although she contracted COVID-19 shortly after Trials, Titmus said, “I’m just trying to get myself feeling back to myself, and I feel like that now, and I’m really excited to race at Comm Games.”

On her preparation since arriving in Europe, Titmus said, “I think I’ve got some really good work in. I’ve made some shifts, and I’m feeling really good for Comm Games. I think I’ve improved in some areas since Trials. I’m looking forward to seeing how fast I can go at the Games.”

The full interview, courtesy of Swimming Australia, is posted below, and the video also includes footage of Titmus training in Chartres, France.
