Anze Tavcar Wins Again at Slovenian Championships

One national record fell in the first two days of the 2016 Slovenian Championships. While there were no such records today, a number of swimmers earned additional podium finishes in day three action.

Mario Todorovic posted a 23.86 to win the men’s 50 butterfly today. Sebastijan Sabo swam a 24.21 for second, and third went to Lovrov Draginic in 24.83.

Nastja Govejsek topped the women’s 50 butterfly with a 26.83 while Neza Klancar was runner up with a 27.98. Ava Schollmayer was third in 28.13.

Following up his 100 freestyle national title, Anze Tavcar stopped the clock in 1:49.93 to win the men’s 200 freestyle by a wide margin. In second was Uros Nikolic in 1:52.03. Ilijan Malcic finished third with a 1:53.54.

In the women’s 200 freestlye, Nika Karlina Petric took home gold in 2:05.24. Silver went to Sara Racnik in 2:06.17 and Mojca Hancman picked up bronze with a 2:07.85.

For his second backstroke win of the weekend, Jonatan Kopelev led a close finish in the men’s 100 backstroke. He touched in 55.26, just ahead of Viktar Staselovich in 55.37 and Marko Krce-Rabar in 55.50.

Yekaterina Rudenko was dominant in the women’s 100 backstroke. She finished in 1:01.79 to win the event, well ahead of second place finisher Janja Jamsek in 1:03.66 and Anemari Kosak in 1:05.53.

In the men’s 400 IM Arnar Sven Saemundsson took home top honors in 4:26.32. Martin Bau followed up yesterday’s 400 freestyle victory with a runner up finish here, in 4:30.01. David Mihalic earned third in 4:31.64.

The top two finishers in the women’s 400 IM cleared five minutes. Anja Crevar, the 200 IM champion, swam a 4:53.98 to win the 400 IM today. Gaja Kristan posted a 4:58.89 for second. Third went to Diana Naglic in 5:02.95.
