Anthony Ervin, Laszlo Cseh, Katie Meili Pick Up Wins in Geneva

A trio of individual Olympic medalists from last summer in Rio all opened up their 2017 racing campaigns in Geneva, Switzerland, and Hungary’s Laszlo Cseh and Americans Anthony Ervin and Katie Meili all walked away with wins.

Ervin swam a time of 50.25 to win the 100 free before posting a 22.87 in the 50 free two days later. Cseh, meanwhile, swept the three butterfly events, winning the 100 fly in 53.56 before taking first in the 50 fly in 24.10, just ahead of Tim Phillips (24.20) and Marcus Schlesinger (24.26). Cseh also won the 200 fly in 1:59.64 and finished second in the 200 IM in 2:03.52.

Switzerland’s Jeremy Desplanches actually finished first in the 200 IM, pulling away from Cseh and touching in 2:00.59. He also won the 50 breast in 28.70, just ahead of American Brad Craig, who finished second in 28.96 and also won the 100 breast in 1:03.85.

On the women’s side, Meili won the 50 breast in 31.93 and then finished second just behind Martina Moravcikova in the 100 breast, 1:09.88 to 1:09.89. Moravcikova also won the 200 breast with a time of 2:31.41.

Madison Kennedy, another Charlotte-based U.S. sprinter, won the 50 free in 25.29 and finished second to Maria Ugolcova in the 100 free, 55.57 to 55.79.

Israel’s Yakov Toumarkin won both the 100 back (55.21) and 200 back (2:00.74), and Scotland’s Cassie Wild-Richards won the 50 back in 29.28 and had the top overall time in the 100 back with a 1:02.27 in the 17-and-under final.

Italy’s Elena Gemo officially won the 100 back in 1:03.61, and she also won the 50 fly in 26.95. She also finished one one-hundredth behind Wild-Richards to finish second in the 50 back.
