RICHMOND – Highlighted by two state record-breaking swims from Andrew Seliskar, Thomas Jefferson S&T won the combined team title on Saturday night at the Virginia 5A Swimming and Diving Championships at the Collegiate School Aquatic Center in Richmond.

Thomas Jefferson S&T racked up 520 points to win the championship ahead of Albemarle (409 points) and Menchville (366 points). Thomas Jefferson S&T claimed the boys’ title with 331 points, while Princess Anne (248 points) and Potomac Falls (220 points) finished second and third. Albemarle (251 points) won the girls’ crown over Atlee (229 points) and Menchville (195 points).

Seliskar started off the night with a dominant showing in the 200 IM, as he dropped a second and a half from his prelim swim of 1:44.55 to win the 200 IM in a new Virginia state record of 1:43.01. Both his prelims and finals swims bettered his own record of 1:46.09 from 2013, and his finals swim wasn’t far off David Nolan’s national public high school record of 1:41.39 from 2011. Seliskar’s record-breaking splits in finals were 22.70/25.45/29.79/25.07.

After lowering the Virginia high school state record in the 100 fly this morning in prelims with a 46.47, Seliskar took the mark even lower in finals with a 46.13, going out in 21.66 and coming back in 24.47. Caeleb Dressel of Clay High School still holds the national public high school record with a 45.89 from 2013. Seliskar, who’s headed to the University of California in the fall, would be ranked in the top 10 in NCAA Division I with that time.

Seliskar also joined Luke Thorsell, Joseph Doran and Quintin Frerichs to take down the state record in the boys’ 200 medley relay with a 1:33.00, clearing Princess Anne’s 1:33.27 from 2014 from the books. Seliskar and Thorsell teamed up with Jonathan Pollock and Emilio Sison to lower the 400 free relay record of 3:06.48 with a 3:04.34.

Along with Seliskar, Menchville’s Colson Moore also won two individual events at the meet, taking top honors in the sprint freestyle events with a 21.29 in the 50 free and a 46.28 in the 100 free. Atlee’s Olivia Fisher swept the same events in the girls’ meet, posting times of 23.67 in the 50 free and 50.92 in the 100 free, both 5A meet records. Brooke Point’s Caroline Wanner picked up wins in the two longest events on the schedule, the 200 IM and 500 free. Wanner flew to a 2:02.60 in the 200 IM, lowering her own 5A meet record of 2:04.28, then followed that up with the only sub-5:00 swim in the 500 free at 4:59.36.

Stone Bridge’s Andi Mack (200 free, 1:52.15) and Lee-Davis’ Molly Sheffield (100 fly, 54.93) also lowered individual 5A meet records. Meet records went down in all three girls’ relays, with Atlee’s Sonora Baker, Oakleigh Hogg, Madeline White and Olivia Fisher kicking off the meet with a 1:47.29 in the 200 medley relay. Then, Menchville’s Jillian Breeger, Summer Wilcox, Chelsea Marsteller and Madeline Morello crushed the 200 free relay record of 1:38.40 with a 1:36.53. Finally, Hickory’s Allison Ramirez, Sydney Hall, Cora Delgado and Susan Hynes combined forces to post a 3:33.96 in the 400 free relay, way under the previous mark of 3:37.25.
